Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Diseases sees adult patients in both acute care and ambulatory care settings.  Our focus is broad, including complicated infections involving various organ systems, patients with weakened immune systems, infections of foreign/prosthetic material, rare diseases, and unusual presentations of common infections.

The Section of Infectious Diseases is an academic division providing specialist consultative care to hospitalized individuals and urgent ambulatory patients at all adult acute care sites and to outpatients in a variety of venues including:

  • Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
  • Calgary STI Clinic
  • General Infectious Diseases Clinic at the Rockyview General Hospital
  • Home Parenteral Therapy Program (HPTP)
  • Southern Alberta (HIV) Clinic
  • Tropical Infectious Diseases Clinic
  • Tuberculosis and Non-Tuberculosis Mycobacterial Clinics
  • Hepatitis C – CUPS Clinic
  • Microbial Health Clinic
  • Wound Care Clinic

In addition, our members are involved in activities related to Infection Prevention and Control, Antimicrobial Stewardship, diagnostic microbiology, clinical informatics, medical education and medical administration.

We are active participants in the education of new physicians at all training levels as per the educational mandate of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine and Alberta Health Services.

We are actively involved in a myriad of research activities in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology and Public Health, through the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases and O’Brien Institute for Public Health of the Cumming School of Medicine.
