The Section of Endocrinology is committed to providing excellence in patient care in all aspects of Endocrinology and Metabolism including Diabetes, Metabolic Health, General Endocrine, Osteoporosis, Thyroid Disease, Thyroid Cancer, Pituitary and Adrenal Disease, Diabetes in Pregnancy, Gender Health, Neuroendocrine Disease and Reproductive Endocrinology.
Process
Referrals should be made using Alberta Health Services’ Generic Referral Form. Once the form is completed:
- Fax to Endocrine Central Access and Triage (ECAT): 403-955-8634
- For urgent referrals, call Endocrine Central Access and Triage (ECAT): 403-955-8030 to discuss and fax an urgent referral to 403-955-8634 with insulin orders if needed.
- Please consult the Alberta Referral Pathways guide for ECAT for specific information, so that patients can be directed to the most appropriate endocrine subspecialty clinic.
- ECAT will confirm receipt of a referral within two business days by return fax. If a referring physician wants to direct the referral to a specific endocrinologist, this needs to be clear on the referral form. The named endocrinologist has the right to direct care to a colleague if they feel that is in the best interest of timely patient care.
Additional information about referrals can be obtained from the Alberta Referral Directory.
