Meet Our Team

Dr. David Hanley Osteoporosis Centre

Dr. Gregory Kline, Physician and Medical Director

Dr. Kline received his MD from the University of Western Ontario in 1996. He subsequently completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Calgary. He liked Calgary so much that he joined the faculty in 2001 and is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine. Having completed a term as Acting Section Chief for Endocrinology, he is now the Medical Director of the Calgary Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Clinic. His clinical and research interests include osteoporosis and endocrine hypertension. Outside of Calgary, he has a particular interest in training junior physicians working in the developing world and writing non-medical books.

Dr. Chris Symonds, Physician

Dr. Chris Symonds has been a practicing endocrinologist since 1996 with special interests in osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease and thyroid disorders. He also has a strong background in medical education having been the Endocrinology residency program director at the University of Calgary, the medical director of the Physician Learning Program and the Chair of the Endocrinology Specialty Committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. As part of our multi-disciplinary Osteoporosis Clinic team, his goal is to bring clarity to diagnosis, define the patient’s absolute risk for fracture and make evidence-based recommendations as to when medication therapy may be appropriate to reduce the future risk for fractures.

Dr. Melissa Kallas-Koeman, Physician

Dr Melissa Kallas joined the Osteoporosis Centre group in 2014. She completed medical school and her Internal Medicine residency through the University of Calgary. She then pursued Endocrinology and Metabolism specialty training through the University of British Columbia, before returning to Calgary to practice. You can find her at the Osteoporosis Centre on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; her other interests include Diabetes in Pregnancy and general Diabetes and Endocrinology. Her goal is to help you understand your diagnosis and risk of fracture, and to work with you and the other team members on a management plan that you are comfortable with.

Dr. Laura Hinz, Physician

Dr. Laura Hinz completed her medical training at the University of Western Ontario. She went on to complete her Internal Medicine and Endocrinology training at the University of Calgary. Her clinical interests include metabolic bone disease in the post-transplant population as well as general endocrinology. She also has a passion for medical education and recently completed a Masters of Medical Education. She works as a Master Teacher at the University of Calgary medical school and aims to incorporate her love of teaching into each patient visit as well. Outside of clinic, she can be found with her children or pursuing her amateur love of ballet (studies have shown it can improve bone density!).

Dr. Nadia Moledina, Physician

Dr. Nadia Moledina is the newest addition to the Osteoporosis Centre.  She completed her medical degree at the University of Alberta and went on to pursue further training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Calgary. Her clinical interests include osteoporosis, Diabetes, and General Endocrinology. She is passionate about improving access to osteoporosis care and hopes to develop clinical pathways to aid primary care physicians in patient counseling.

A. Lynn Feasel, Nurse Clinician

Lynn Feasel is a Registered Nurse for the Osteoporosis Centre. Lynn completed her nursing degree at the University of Calgary and had been working as the Nurse Clinician for the division of Orthopaedics at the Rockyview Operating Room, prior to coming to the Osteoporosis Clinic in April 2016. Lynn has also completed studies in Medical Laboratory and Chemical Engineering Technologies and works in the department of Anatomical Pathology. Lynn’s career in orthopaedic nursing is guided by evidence-based practice and quality improvement strategies to ensure, through a team approach, patients receive safe and efficient care. Lynn is an avid snowboarder and enjoys spending time with her dog in the Canadian Rockies.

Cecily Chan, Pharmacist

Cecily Chan has been working as a clinical pharmacist at the Osteoporosis Centre since 2008. Prior to joining AHS, she worked in community pharmacies as pharmacist and assistant pharmacy manager. She has also worked in the AHS Outpatient Pharmacy and AHS Home Parental Therapy Program clinic. Other than Alberta, Cecily also holds a pharmacist license in Hong Kong. She has received Additional Prescribing Authorization from the Alberta College of Pharmacists. Cecily has completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree at the University of Alberta.  Her favourite thing about pharmacy is compounding. She envies the pharmacists in the apothecary days, when they could mix up concoctions and potions from scratch!

Heidi Piovoso, Dietitian

Heidi Piovoso is a Registered Dietitian, new to the Osteoporosis team as of September 2018. Heidi brings over 20 years of experience in public health and ambulatory/community care settings with a focus on supporting food insecure families. She comes to us with a strong interest in fracture prevention and a passion for helping people reach their nutrition and wellness goals. When not in the office, you will find her enjoying the paths around the reservoir, playing basketball, baking, or playing tag at the park with her kids.
