Our Obstetric Internal Medicine (OBIM) fellowship is a one-year fellowship with the following exposures:
Clinical Opportunities
- OBIM Consult service - based at the Foothills Medical Centre (high-risk delivery hospital) operating Mon-Fri 8am-5pm
- OBIM clinics
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinics
- OBIM Fellows clinic - a longitudinal clinic where the fellow is responsible for their own patients with staff oversight
- Subspecialty pregnancy-specific clinics
- Nephrology
- Cardiology
- Congenital Cardiology
- Thrombosis
- Lupus/Antiphospholipid Syndrome
- Diabetes in Pregnancy
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- We highly recommend an elective (1-3 blocks) at another site (in Canada or internationally) - travel restrictions permitting.
Education
- Organization and responsibility for Complex Care Rounds - monthly multidisciplinary rounds where we review complex cases in pregnancy
- Participation in monthly Cardiac Case Rounds - monthly multidisciplinary rounds where we review complex cardiac cases in pregnancy
- Presentation at Journal Club twice over the fellowship and participation in our monthly journal club when other residents present
- Providing education to
- Core Internal Medicine program via Medical Teaching Unit education
- Residents when on rotation
Research
- Participation in a research project in a domain of interest
- Research mentorship and support by Dr. Kara Nerenberg
Eligibility
- Trainees must be a Canadian graduate and have successfully completed the FRCPC in Internal Medicine
- Funding - We are not independently funded but can work to find a solution for trainees coming outside of a formal training program without associated funding.
- Enrollment in the fellowship is contingent on funding approval.
Application Information
- Our application opens in the fall with applications due October 31st of the application year. Successful candidates are invited for a zoom interview in November with announcement of the successful candidate by mid-December
- We accept one fellow per year

- Three letters of reference
- Must be submitted directly by the referee either electronically or by mail
- Please note – your reference letters must be from individuals outside of the Obstetric Internal Medicine program at the University of Calgary
